Wisconsin’s Managed Forest Law

Professional Forester WisconsinWhether you are just hearing about this law or you have been researching this opportunity for years, Wisconsin’s Managed Forest Law is an impressive landowner incentive program that encourages science-based, sustainable forestry. While this law incorporates timber harvesting for profit, it also allows for wildlife growth and water quality. These plans typically run for 25-50 years and can reduce a private landowner’s woodland property taxes by up to seventy-five percent. Can you imagine the savings? In order to participate in this incentive program, every landowner must work with a certified plan writer, a CPW. Our CPW will enroll your land for the tax program, and work with you to determine what type of forest management activities need to take place in order to stay in the program. Services like timber harvesting, clearcuts, thinnings, selective harvesting, etc. are all written out into a long-term plan that everyone can easily understand. Whether this is completely new information, or you are already enrolled in the MFL program but need a professional forester to complete the job, we can help.

Timber Sale Setup

A large portion of forest and woodland management is the opportunity for timber sales. We make this process easy and simple by marking the trees with marking paint, performing a thorough evaluation of the timber, and providing an estimated volume of the type and amount we can expect to sell. At that point we can begin to market to local sawmills and independent loggers. When the right logger is found, our team puts together the sales contract to be signed by both the landowners and the logger. By overseeing everything from beginning to end, we can ensure that the logger completes the work agreed upon, so both parties are satisfied.
